Whimsical Wednesday

I thought I'd add a little whimsy to your Wednesday
with my take on Matilda -- Roald Dahl's beloved bookworm -- all grown up!
The Cottage / The Companion / The Collection
Modern-day Matilda resides in a charming country cottage with her beloved pooch. She likes to poke fun at her past and has a wicked sense of humor -- hence the dog's name, Trunch (Trunchbull + Bulldog, anyone?). Ever the enthusiast for great literature, she collects books -- both old and new. She leads a very colorful life and travels often. Just as Dahl's book promised, "she went to Africa with Ernest Hemingway and to India with Rudyard Kipling." She travelled all over the world, but this time, she left her books and English village behind. Wanderlust was once a figment of her imagination, and it has since become her reality. A firm believer that you can have both "books and looks," she fancies a fun frock and bold accessories. A self-proclaimed paperphile, she collects stationery and writes Miss Honey often. Most nights, you can find her snuggled up with Trunch, a spot of tea, and the company of a good book. She lives her life by this motto: "If you are good, life is good."

"So Matilda's strong young mind continued to grow, nurtured by the voices of all those authors who had sent their books out into the world like ships on the sea. These books gave Matilda a hopeful and comforting message: You are not alone."
By now, you're already aware of my love for Mr. Dahl, so it's no surprise that I'm a huge fan of Matilda. My sister and I loved reading the book and watching the movie when we were young. I think we cherished the fact that this child protagonist was a super nerd and prodigy -- just another instance when the smart and studious girl prevails! The idea behind today's post is credited to my dear sister, Aubrey. I received an excited text from her about a week ago proposing the concept, and I was so tickled by the idea. It's fun to think about characters cherished during childhood and to imagine what they might be like if they matured, just as we have. I immediately started thinking about all of the great possibilities for the post. I hope this is what Aubrey had in mind!

Have a wonderful and whimsical Wednesday!
Toodles,
ANF
